A little background to Padel

Once a sport few people could pronounce, let alone play, padel has exploded in popularity and is now one of the UK’s fastest-growing activities, particularly across Cheshire. And Stockport County Community Trust and CCEB are officially joining the padel party.

The tournament will take place on April 30th at Pure Padel Stockport, a slick, state-of-the-art indoor venue boasting five panoramic courts.

The event format

Twenty teams of two, battling it out for glory, pride and very real bragging rights. Entry is just £250 per team, with all proceeds going directly to the Stockport County Community Trust.

Given padel’s popularity, places are expected to disappear faster than a smash winner down the glass, so early booking is strongly advised via the tournament booking form.

And a word of warning: padel players are not exactly known for a gentle, just-having-a-go approach. Expect competitive spirits, quick reactions and possibly the odd dramatic dive. In short, this is possibly not the time or place to have your first padel dabble!

Andrew Middleton, MD of CCEB, said: “As soon as we heard about this tournament, we knew it was right for us. It’s active, promotes wellbeing, encourages employee participation and supports a brilliant community cause. Those values really matter to us. It’s a real honour to have our name associated with this first-ever event and Stockport County Community Trust.”

Stockport County Community Trust

Stockport County Community Trust is the registered charity of the Club doing outstanding work across the local area. Its programmes support people of all ages – from the young with the Kits By County school PE provision and youth initiatives, disability programmes for adults and juniors, to older residents, veterans’ groups and those living with Parkinsons and dementia to name just a few.

“We’re really excited to be running this padel tournament,” said Alison Warwood, CEO of the Stockport County Community Trust. “It’s a first for us and a first for the Stockport business community. Padel is hugely popular, so we expect places to go quickly. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Trust’s work and engage with local companies. We’re really looking forward to working with Andrew and his team to promote the event, CCEB, and the Trust to the Stockport & Cheshire business community.”

Malcolm Cooke, MD of C&C Insurance Brokers says: “As a group, we’re really excited about putting the C&C Employee Benefits name to this event. There’s always a buzz when a business community comes together at a sporting event. It’s competitive, it’s a brilliant way of making new connections and rekindling existing ones, but above all, it’ll be great fun and a perfect way for businesses to support Stockport County Community Trust. One thing’s for sure – I need to work on my backspin before then. Not to mention my drop shot, my lob…”
